Diversity Statement
Our Pod Family of Businesses, including The Co-Lab, The Pod Works, and Tacoma Children’s School, acknowledge that racism, prejudice, bias, and privilege exist in our own lives, our schools, our businesses, and our society. We gratefully acknowledge and commit to the additional responsibility we have as community leaders and educators to actively work to dismantle systems of oppression in our society and build a more equitable future together.
We recognize that Our Pod Family locations exist on the traditional lands of the Coastal Salish people, specifically the Puyallup Tribe. We seek to honor and learn from these original caretakers of this land.
Our Pod Family does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability, or marital status. We strive to be an inclusive and welcoming community. We celebrate our differences and believe that diversity makes our society stronger and more beautiful.
We commit to:
Listening actively, learning openly, and questioning our privilege and tolerance of systemic racism and prejudice.
Increasing the representation of BIPOC and LGTBQIA+ families and culture in our classrooms and shared spaces through our purchase of books, toys, and other learning materials.
Providing anti-racist and anti-bias training and workshops for our staff and Our Pod Family members every year.
Intentionally inviting more BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ owned businesses to join Our Pod Family community, including providing extra financial support when applicable.
Giving financial aid supported memberships to those struggling and underserved.
Increasing the diversity of our staff by actively encouraging BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ community members to apply for positions with Our Pod Family.
